Sufficiently Advanced Technology

Is indistinguishable from magic.

And if I think about it, this is probably my primary reason for wanting to work on technology at all.

This kind of magic is not a gimmicky type that involves sleight of hand, or pulling rabbits out of hats. But rather it is a kind of magic that inspires awe and wonder, which makes people feel like anything is possible because its origin is not divine or arcane, but entirely human.

I admire people who would dedicate their lives completely in order to help others but I think I am not like this. My desire to work on technology is primarily self-motivated, because I care about creating magic for myself. I mean, obviously I want other people to experience this magic as well, but I would probably be lying if I said that helping them or solving their problems was my explicit motivation.

Regardless, I think creating magic with technology helps improve people's lives as a side effect, and so that's all good with me.
