Functional Teleportation

Allow me to propose to you an idea for fast travel:

  1. You go to sleep in your own bed and are sedated.
  2. A professional, trusted service handles all security and transportation of you and your luggage.
  3. You wake up in the hotel bed of your destination city, across the world.

Much of the actual travel experience, going to and from the airport, waiting on the flight, and in the terminal can be completely cut out with this.

Obviously you can't actually make travel time faster like this, it's the same as it would have been, but your experience of it is not. We only experience time when we are conscious so by travelling while unconscious you have effectively performed the equivalent of a fast travel in a video game.

This is the natural conclusion of extending the idea of a redeye to the entire process of the travel, not just the flight. But bed-to-bed (B2B) transportation is a better experience.

The logistical issues I think are quite solvable today. The main bottleneck here is whether usage of sedation like this (for possibly up to 20h) is safe for long-term health.
